The name of this recipe is simply music to my ears...so, duh...of course I had to try it out! (psst...I found it over here).
Now...normally, I steer clear of recipes w/ too many steps...but even w/ its 3-part process, this one is actually pretty easy to make. Plus, it combines chocolate & peanut butter. What.is.up.
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup baking cocoa
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vinegar
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups water
Peanut Butter Layer
3/4 tsp vegetable oil
1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup baking cocoa
1 lb powdered sugar
6 tbsp sour milk (you can make it sour by adding 1/2 tsp of vinegar to it--who knew??)
1 tsp vanilla
1. Combine all of the cake ingredients and pour into a 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. I normally under-bake my cakes, etc...by a few minutes (to make sure they're soft and delish)...and I should have on this one. Next time, I will try 37-38 minutes.
Making sure the batter was satisfactory (and it was)...somebody had to do it!
2. After the cake has completely cooled, mix the peanut butter & 3/4 tsp vegetable oil together and spread over the top of the cake. Then stick 'er in the fridge so the p.b. gets a bit hardened.
3. In a sauce pan, combine all of the topping ingredients...bring it to a boil...and then remove from the heat. Let the mixture cool a bit and then spread over the p.b. layer. Once cake is cooled, refrigerate until it's time to enjoy.
I know you wish you could be enjoying this tastiness right about now, huh? The only thing missing, vanilla ice cream...and now worries, it's a'comin!
I for sure need to step away from all the recipes I've been trying lately...not good for the figure. Perhaps start 'pinning' more projects ideas than foodie things... ;)
